We are delighted to invite Georgina Conroy to be our first resident artist. She has created work at the project space during this summer. Her work will be on show during the Somerset Art Weeks 2014 Open Studios Event, 20 September – 5 October, open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday 12noon to 5pm. For more details of the event, please see the Art Weeks page: http://www.somersetartworks.org.uk/openstudios/georgina-conroy-eastville-project
Georgina’s work is inspired by the grime accumulated in domestic spaces. She creates paintings in the form of layered objects which only partially reveal themselves to the viewer.
“The detritus of everyday life contains a strange beauty which describes the mundane world which we inhabit. Our everyday pursuits leave traces on our environment: this work tries to emulate that process. It is the ordinary which gives us the tools to be extraordinary.”
This first residency has been supported by South Somerset District Council, Arts Development Service.
